Matthew was this years ‘artist in residence’ at 8th Classical Guitar Society of Malaysia’s annual camp. The event is held in the atmospheric setting of Fraser’s Hill which rises 1,500 meters above sea-level on the Titiwangsa mountain range of Peninsular Malaysia.
Above are photographs from Matthew’s concert and masterclasses at the camp. The students numbered 60 + with many beginner and intermediate level players but there was also a group of very accomplished grade 8 and above players. It was impressive to see the level of work and discipline that was going on all the time at the camp.
The great atmosphere and smooth organisation is down to the tireless efforts of the society members and their president Simon Cheong.
The camp is a huge success and in past years has seen artists in residence such as John Duarte (in 1996), The Hand and Dupre duo and Gary Ryan ( in 2005).

Just an interest bit to share with others not in the camp: Fraser’s Hill was named after a Scotsmen who went missing around the hill.
